The Memphis Development Foundation's new facility houses its student educational programs involving thousands of students each year. After an exhaustive search of existing buildings in the downtown area, the conclusion was to construct a new facility in the adjacent parking lot for the future Halloran Centre.
The Crump Firm immediately began designing a contemporary facility. The goals included appealing to the next generation by meeting the needs of their educational programs and providing an intimate performance theatre and Broadway-sized rehearsal venue and event space.
The site planning was designed with an urban setting in mind, allowing the building to create an entry plaza between the new Halloran Centre and the existing Orpheum Theatre.
