St. Jude Advanced Research Center

The new $412 million advanced research center for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is designed as an interactive hub of exploration and discovery. The approximately 650,000-square-foot center cultivates transformative research and collaboration.

The center is an interactive and interdisciplinary environment designed specifically to generate new ideas and teamwork. The labs and spaces enable researchers to collaborate openly across departments. Open atriums and courtyards bring in natural light, and interaction zones unite key science disciplines.

Labs focus on immunology, neurobiology, cell and molecular biology, gene editing, metabolomics, advanced microscopy, epigenetics, genomics, immunotherapy and RNA biology. Integrated advanced technologies and resources help to accelerate the pace of discovery.

Two of the center’s eight floors are slated for future expansion and evolving technology in an effort to make sure the advanced research center meets the needs of new initiatives, like a recent partnership with the World Health Organization to fight cancer abroad, and the growing teams that support them.

Led by The Crump Firm (lead architect) and Jacobs Engineering (lab design), construction began April 2018, and was completed in 2021.

To learn more about this project's pivotal role in the one-of-a-kind mission and unprecedented growth at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, read The Daily Memphian's article published Sept. 20, 2018.

This project was awarded "Best New Construction: Large Category" as well as "Project of the Year" at the 2022 Building Memphis Awards

"Project of the Year goes to the single facility that most demonstrates every area of excellence that Building Memphis stands for. The 2022 winner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center (ARC), is downright futuristic. Its layout creates spaces for collaboration, and its design and aesthetic are a boundless source of inspiration for creativity for users whose work literally saves lives. The Inspiration4 ARC promises to improve the lives of not only those in the Memphis community but also for those around the world, for decades to come."
